The Ellis County Press: Ovilla officers commended Ovilla officers commended ================================================================================ Editor on 07/24/2003 00:00:00 GEORGIA FITZHUGH The Ellis County Press OVILLA - Ovilla Police Chief Michael Moon commended several officers for their work at the Ovilla City Council's regular meeting on July 14. Moon presented letters of commendation to patrol officers Dalyn Rollins, Mike McKenna, David Ol-sen and Charlie Dan-iels, and Sgt. Nick Downs. Moon described as the week of June 20 -27 as the 'biggest, busiest week the City of Ovilla has ever had,' and explained how the officers had worked 'to serve and protect.' On June 21, Rol-lins spotted a suspect who had been involved in an armed carjacking in Midlothian driving in the Ovilla city limits. After a car chase, the suspect escaped on foot. Rollins recovered the stolen vehicle and a stolen pistol. On June 22, Downs, Olsen, Mc-Kenna and Daniels responded to a fatality car accident on West-moreland Road in which a pedestrian was killed. Chief Moon said he had received many positive comments about the officers' professionalism, courtesy and compassion in handling the tragic situa- tion. On June 26, McKenna was patrolling at night when he stopped a suspicious vehicle with three occupants. McKenna knew there had been a rash of vehicle burglaries at night across the county. The car was filled with electronics. McKenna arrested the three persons on suspicion of vehicle burglary and with their arrest, solved 30 vehicle burglaries throughout the county. The officers received the applause of the audience, appreciative words from council members and letters of commendation placed in their personnel files.
