The Ellis County Press: Local Toastmasters forms new club Local Toastmasters forms new club ================================================================================ Editor on 05/08/2003 00:00:00 JOEY DAUBEN The Ellis County Press WAXAHACHIE - Aspiring public speakers will now have an opportunity to give their speeches at the new Toastmasters Club. Waxahachie resident Pat Moriarty said he experienced first hand what the 79-year-old leadership group did for him, and wanted a chance for others to take part. 'I have received 10 inquiries and they continue to roll in,' Moriarty said. 'Some have mentioned they will bring friends into the club.' In addition, membership dues will run around $34 a year, after Moriarty establishes what he calls a 'demonstration meeting,' a test-run to see how popular the group will be. 'At that time, we will decide if enough people [12] are interested for a charter, when and where we will meet, how often, etc.,' he said. 'I would like a club closer to home as I now travel to Arlington for a meeting each Tuesday.' The closest Toas-tmasters Club is in DeSoto, however, but Mori-arty said he saw potential in Ellis County. 'Toastmasters also developes leadership skills, as well as communication skills,' he said. 'It is a challenge, but fun.' Those interested can contact Moriarty at 972-225-0957 or 972-617-6583.
