India residents lose power for more than 14 hours

INDIA - India residents were plunged into darkness late Sunday night when
residents lost all electrical power.
'Power failed around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night, ONCOR repairmen worked through the
night until power was restored about 12:15 Monday afternoon, said ONCOR
spokesperson Gailee Cardwell.
A mobile transformer was delivered from Tyler to use as a backup to use for
future repairs.
A welder installed a new bush to the insulator on the transformer allowing power
to be turned back around 12:15 p.m. Monday afternoon.
A large hole was observed in the bushing region and could prove to be the
possible cause of the power outage.
The cause of the failure was unknown and still being investigated as of press
time.
A root cause analysis will be performed by ONCOR to determine whether it was
years of wear and tear or it another cause is to blame for the incident.
'Insuring the safety and energy reliability of our customers is our top
priority,' Cardwell said.
This is the second time in two weeks residents have lost power in their
neighborhood.
A retired TXU local resident said there is not enough power to handle the new
growth of the area.
ONCOR contends their systems are keeping up with the booming region.
'The sub station has excess capacity to handle growth in the area,' Cardwell
said.
It is estimated with labor and other associated costs it will be $1 million to
replace a blown transformer.
