The Ellis County Press: Ferris sports group asks for pole repair Ferris sports group asks for pole repair ================================================================================ Editor on 03/06/2003 00:00:00 SHERRY LONG The Ellis County Press FERRIS - A pole split down the middle is leaning on the fence near the first base line of the city's baseball field. Two additional poles behind home plate are cracked. Sports Association Representative Debbie Connell came before Ferris City Council Tuesday evening to request maintenance work be conducted on the parks to replace the poles and lights. She was not sure whether TXU Energy or the city owned the poles. Councilwoman Lori Perkins said she was under the impression the poles belonged to TXU. 'So, it's a safety hazard, you don't know when it's gonna break.' said Councilman Fred C. Pontley. Councilmembers decided to contact TXU to confirm if the poles belonged to the energy company or the city. Councilman Victor Burnett said, 'We can buy poles about $400 apiece.' Ferris Sports Association also asked for the lights to be refocused. According to Connell, the lights are pointed at something not even there and the glare hits the children in their eyes so they can not see to catch the balls.
