PALMER - Charles G. Davis of Palmer died Friday, Feb. 14 at Baylor Medical
Center, Dallas.
Davis co-founded what is now the Commercial State Bank in Palmer more than 30
years ago.
Ted Smith, now chairman of the board for Vintage Bank in Waxa hachie, said he
and Davis had equal interest in CSB in 1998.
'We had it for about four years,' he said. 'He was a great guy to work with.'
Davis was born to Ed and Emma Guerney Davis of Ferris, where he spent his early
years. He attended schools at Ferris, Texas A& M and Trinity University.
He married Ruth Barron who preceded him in death. They had two sons Robert
Barron Davis, who died in 1992, and Edwin Wayne Davis of Dallas.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline Sue Davis of Palmer; daughter-in-law Cathy
Davis; grandchildren Courtney, Lance, Kelly and Laurie Davis; stepdaughter
Suzanne and her husband Gary Leach and their children Collin and Clare;
stepdaughter Linda and her husband Darrell Lasset-ter and their children Brooke
and Brandon; and a faithful friend, Arthur Ray Johnson.
Charles began in early-married life managing farm pro-perties of the Lee and
Ethel Hughley Barron Family.
He believed in and practiced living life to the fullest. This found him piloting
his own personal airplane, serving the city as mayor, being an Ellis County
school trustee and a city councilman.
His varied business interests included Barron &
Davis Insurance, American Health & Accident Insurance, Barron & Davis Funeral
Home, Ellis County Gin Company, where he was named Texas Ginner of The Year,
past co-owner of Commercial State Bank at Ferris and Palmer, and co-owner of
Ennis Warehouse Inc.
Davis was once a proud recipient of an Eligere Award, an honor conferred upon
him by the student body of the local high school. His selection being determined
by students as their favorite citizen for his devotion to causes which made
their lives more meaningful.
Davis was, at his death, a Mason of longest tenure at Palmer.
For the last 25 years, Davis and his wife were able to visit Europe, travel the
high seas and enjoy life while remaining a valued part of the Palmer and Ferris
communities..
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 17 at First United Methodist Church in Palmer
with Rev. Annette Sowell and Rev. S.G. Hancock officiating. Interment was in
Palmer Cemetery, with Greens Funeral Home of Ferris in charge of arrangements.
