The Ellis County Press: Hutchins street lighting agreement approved Hutchins street lighting agreement approved ================================================================================ Editor on 12/26/2002 00:00:00 JIM WILLIAMS Staff Writer HUTCHINS - Mayor Artis Johnson and city council members wanted to make certain they could get out of a street lighting agreement with Oncor Electric Delivery Company without penalty before voting on the agenda item in regular session Dec. 9. Manuel Flores, representing Oncor, assured mayor and council they would be able to get out of the agreement without penalty. Flores said basically the agreement was new, but it had been in effect for the past year. 'The only difference, the cities will have to go to their retail electric provider,' he said. He said this was not an attempt by Oncor to raise its rates. 'All we do is deliver the energy. There's no change in cost. If you want Oncor to install a street light, we don't bill you. Your retail electric provider will bill you.' 'You can always communicate with me. We'll try to accommodate you. Cities have several options. Some cities maintain their own street lighting or contract with someone else.' Flores said 37 cities have signed this agreement on street lighting. 'The company is very lenient. There is no penalty.'
