The Ellis County Press: New Ovilla stop light helps traffic backup New Ovilla stop light helps traffic backup ================================================================================ Editor on 12/05/2002 00:00:00 GEORGIA FITZHUGH The Ellis County Press OVILLA - Drivers have a new reason to stop in Ovilla, since the construction of the town's first and only stop light. A new four-way signal light was erected at the intersection of the 600-700 block of Main Street and the 3300-3400 block of Ovilla Road by the Texas Department of Transportation. The new traffic signal, the usual red, green and yellow (without a left turn arrow) is doing its job of slowing and pacing the increasing traffic along Ovilla Road through Ovilla, especially at peak traffic times, according to police. 'Traffic is slow and smooth,' reported Police Chief Michael Moon. 'Knock on wood. I was predicting that it would increase the number of accidents there, since traffic coming over the hill can't see the light ahead. People wouldn't be expecting it, I thought,' Moon said. 'The light has really helped the cross-traffic on Main Street. Traffic used to back up there, but it's not nearly as bad now.
