The Ellis County Press: Palmer citizens ask to replace council members as planning and zoning commissioners Palmer citizens ask to replace council members as planning and zoning commissioners ================================================================================ Editor on 12/06/2001 00:00:00 Mark Varsel The Ellis County Press PALMER - In the past, Palmer City Council members have doubled as members of the Palmer Planning and Zoning Commission. There have been some questions raised concerning the legality of this arrangement. In a move to extinguish any indication of inpropriety, the city council was scheduled to vote to authorize itself to legally act as the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Palmer. In a surprise move, citizens attending the meeting suggested private citizens be appointed to fill the panel of the city's planning and zoning commission. City Administrator Scott Albert expressed the difficulty the city had experienced when trying to fill the posts with volunteers. Several attendees immediately nominated themselves to fill the vacant posts and put forward the names of other individuals who would agree to volunteer their time to serve the city. Albert and members of the council immediately agreed to take the matter into consideration and took no further action on the proposed ordinance to have council members sit on the commission.
