The Ellis County Press: Palmer outlaws wild animal pets Palmer outlaws wild animal pets ================================================================================ Editor on 12/06/2001 00:00:00 Mark Varsel The Ellis County Press PALMER - At its latest meeting, city council members unanimously agreed to outlaw the possession of wild animals within the Palmer city limits. The council had originally given consideration to the establishment of a registration program to regulate the ownership of certain wild animals. In arriving at its decision, council said a registration program would have been costly and difficult to administer, placing an undue burden on limited city resources. The council also indicated it was best for the welfare and protection of the citizens of Palmer to outlaw the ownership of the animals. The list of banned animals consists primarily of large feline carnivores such as lions, tigers and cheetahs. Common variety house pets, such as cats and dogs, and exotic varieties of birds and reptiles are not included.
