Waxahachie chamber discusses city master plan

WAXAHACHIE - The Waxa-hachie C3 master plan will need to obtain a non-profit
status in order to request state and federal grant funds toward development
around the city.
Assistant City Manager Paul Stevens said volunteers were needed for filling
committee positions regarding antique, entertainment, cultural and history/craft
districts.
The plan was unveiled during the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce New Member
Luncheon Friday afternoon, Aug. 24 at the Waxahachie Country Club.
The focus was said to be on the downtown's outlying districts.
Previous meetings involving city leaders and consultants turned out between 50
and 100 design projects.
From those projects, consultants pointed out five, which would have the most
positive effect on the city's economy.
Mark Singleton, Citizens National Bank president, said the plan had a walkway
connecting the courthouse-square with other portions of downtown, a jazz plaza
near Kaufman Street on the east side of town and extensions of alleys between
buildings in the antique district and other parts of downtown.
Stevens said additional access could make room for more stores.
Also planned is a new entrance from Interstate 35 into downtown.
Stevens said the plan needed an interim director, and executive and advisory
boards to start the plan's actual execution.
