Red Oak reaches decreased gas rate agreement with TXU

RED OAK - The residents of Red Oak will soon see a payoff from the city's
dispute with TXU, a global energy company.
The agreement reached between the utility and its customers will result in
decreased gas rates for both residential and commercial users of natural gas.
TXU had originally requested a rate increase that would have established a
common rate for each class of customer. Twenty-four cities banded together to
form an Ellis County coalition and challenge the request for the rate increase.
Red Oak council will meet on Aug. 31 to approve the settlement.
TXU customers can expect to see decreases from two to five percent on their
utility bills; however, gas customers will be assessed an additional five cents
per month for the next six months to pay the legal costs associated with the
dispute.
