The Ellis County Press: Many students need current shot records Many students need current shot records ================================================================================ Editor on 01/25/2001 00:00:00 WAXAHACHIE - Health officials are advising parents of Waxahachie Independent School District students to make certain their children are current in required shots. A registered nurse in the WISD said many students had not received all their immunizations. According to Texas state law, anyone born after Sept. 3, 1988 must be vaccinated for mumps, measles, rubella and all three types of hepatitis. The nurse said this would affect approximately 4,000 students, most of who were in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades. She said shots for hepatitis had to be a series spanning six months. Because of the law which went into effect last summer, students who are not current in their immunizations will be suspended from school. The nurse said the desire was not to kick kids out of school, but districts are held liable by law. She said school officials were just abiding by the law.
