The Ellis County Press: Red Oak school gives $3,000 to Helping Hands Red Oak school gives $3,000 to Helping Hands ================================================================================ Editor on 01/25/2001 00:00:00 Special to the Ellis County Press RED OAK - When North Ellis County Outreach was vandalized two weeks before Christmas, Red Oak Junior High's Student Council wanted to help. Tape recorders and telephones were taken. Containers of flour, coffee, baby formula, sugar and detergent were opened and strewn about inside the outreach center known as Helping Hands. In the sad wake of the Dec. 8 break-in, the ROJHS Student Council informed the Wal-Mart in Lancaster. contacted Wal-Mart in Lancaster seeking to help the center known as Helping Hands. An effort was planned to donate money to Helping Hands. As a result, Red Oak Junior High recently donated $3,000 to the North Ellis County Outreach Center with Wal-Mart's help. The check was officially handed to North Ellis County Outreach on Jan. 17. Red Oak Junior High successfully met its fund-raising goal, and Wal-Mart provided the Student Council with a matching grant of $1,290. With that money, students from the organization purchased food, clothing and Wal-Mart gift certificates for needy families at Christmas.
