The Ellis County Press: Glenn Heights recall vote slated March 17 Glenn Heights recall vote slated March 17 ================================================================================ Editor on 01/25/2001 00:00:00 GLENN HEIGHTS - Voters will decide on March 17 whether or not to remove Mayor Mary Coffman and city council members Jesus Humphrey, June Johnson, Nancy Otto and Don Williams from office. The recall election date was set during a Jan 16 meeting after the officials defended themselves in response to a lawsuit accusing them of 'misfeasance and/or malfeasance' in voting to 'initiate and/or continue litigation.' Sheffield Development sued Glenn Heights in 1997 after the council sought to rezone 194 acres initially purchased for a housing subdivision, and the company was awarded $600,000, including legal fees and interest charges. Individual petitions to recall the five officials each garnered at least 224 valid signatures. Mayor Coffman and the four council members told an estimated 25 citizens on hand they had done nothing wrong.
