TXU wants to hike natural gas 7.86%

ELLIS COUNTY - TXU Gas filed a request for an average 7.86 percent natural gas
rate increase with city councils of 13 Ellis County communities on June 30. The
hike, proposed to be effective August 7, is expected to result in additional
annual revenues of $517,995. Cities that would be affected include Alma,
Bardwell, Ennis, Ferris, Garrett, Italy, Maypearl, Midlothian, Milford, Palmer,
Pecan Hill, Red Oak and Waxahachie. In some communities, the company hasn't
asked for a rate increase for at least four years. Some areas have not had their
natural gas rate raised for as many as 18 years. 
TXU said the rate request 'follows the company's investment of $4.6 million in
the Ellis Distribution System infrastructure from June 1995 through September
1999.'
