The Ellis County Press: Thunderstorms bring flooding to area Thunderstorms bring flooding to area ================================================================================ Editor on 06/08/2000 00:00:00 DANNY IVISON - Ellis County Press Torrential downpours Sunday flooded roadways, businesses and homes in Ellis County. Unofficially six to nine inches of rain fell Sunday during the day causing creeks and sewer systems to overflow.  The rising waters damaged homes and businesses near the downtown area of Palmer.  Red Oak Creek filled and overflowed causing the service road on I-45 between Ferris and Palmer to be closed. FM 831 from Palmer to Bristol and FM 660 between Ferris and Bristol was also inundated with flooding and impassable. Ironically, at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, where official rainfall records are logged, less than an inch of rain fell from midnight Saturday to midnight Sunday. That brings the unofficial total for the year to about 16.6 inches; the average for this date is 15.67 inches. Runoff from the already moist ground did help to fill stock tanks in the area bringing some relief to area cattle raisers. Rain over the last two weeks has helped to lessen the threat of a serious drought in Ellis County this summer but more rain is needed.
