The Ellis County Press: Donkeys available for adoption Donkeys available for adoption ================================================================================ Editor on 09/13/2012 14:38:00 The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office has two donkeys now available for adoption. The donkeys have gone unclaimed by their owners and all have been offered through the public sale process; however, no one placed any bids the day of the sales. A yearling male and an adult male are available. The donkeys’ level of training is unknown. A minimal amount of paperwork is required; adopters are asked to pay a $30 Coggins test cost incurred by the county per donkey. Adopters also will need to make arrangements to pick up and transport their chosen animal(s). Those interested in adopting one or more of the donkeys can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 972-825-4901. “Donkeys are really good guard animals. They don’t like coyotes,” Deputy Carol Darling said. “Their braying is fun to hear and they’re generally less maintenance than a horse.”
