The Ellis County Press: New Year’s shooting leaves 1 dead New Year’s shooting leaves 1 dead ================================================================================ Megan Gray on 01/05/2012 10:15:00 ENNIS - A New Year’s Eve shootout ended with a body found near the Oak Grove area in Ennis leaving one dead, one arrested and one at large, according to reports. Jose Benito Alvarado, believed to be in his early 30s, was killed at a residence on the 400 block of Avenue A, Saturday evening, Dec. 31. According to reports, Alvarado and 29-year-old Pedro Bastida drove to the 400 block of Avenue A. The driver, Bastida, is believed to have been armed with an unknown make and model assault rifle, as of press time. During the shootout with the third suspect at the residence, Bastidia was reportedly shot multiple times in the left arm and Alvarado was killed. According to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office records, after his arrest, Bastida was arraigned and booked at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a $100,000 bond.
