The Ellis County Press: City-wide elections experienced low voter turnout, run-off in Lancaster City-wide elections experienced low voter turnout, run-off in Lancaster ================================================================================ Megan Gray on 05/19/2011 00:51:00 ELLIS AND DALLAS COUNTY - Area cities in Ellis and Southern Dallas County experienced a low voter turnout with city and school races Saturday, May 14. One voter in Lancaster was noted as saying, “a population of 36,000 people had roughly 450 come out to vote. That means .0125 percent of the voters have made a decision for the rest of the city.” Lancaster is the only city in the area with a run-off. According to City Secretary Dolle Downe, “No candidate in District 2 received a majority of the vote.” In accordance with the City Charter and the Texas Election Code, city council will consider calling the run-off election at their meeting on Monday, May 23, following the canvass of votes. “It [the run-off] cannot be called prior to the canvass,” said Downe. Stanley M. Jaglowski, Marian A. Elkiins and Gary John Citizen, Sr. ran for District 2 with Citizen and Jaglowski reciveing the most votes. The run-off election date is Saturday, June 18.
