The Ellis County Press: UNT Dallas commencement ceremony May 16 UNT Dallas commencement ceremony May 16 ================================================================================ David Porter - david.porter@unt.edu on 05/10/2011 10:33:00 DALLAS—The University of North Texas at Dallas holds its commencement ceremony at the Ellis Davis Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. May 16. The graduating class of the nation’s newest university includes 208 undergraduates and 20 graduate students. State Representative Helen Giddings (D-Dallas), one of the driving forces behind the city’s first public, four-year university, will deliver the commencement address. The graduation ceremony is for students who have declared UNT Dallas as their home campus, but they will receive a University of North Texas degree, according to UNT Dallas Registrar Nichole Mancone. Their diplomas name UNT Dallas as the location where the degrees were conferred. UNT Dallas will begin awarding its own degrees after the school is separately accredited, which is expected to occur in 2013. Until then, UNT Dallas maintains its accreditation through the flagship university of the UNT System. The ceremony will take place in the arena at the Jessie Owens Memorial Complex located at 9191 S. Polk St. From I-35E, take I-20 West. Take the South Polk Street exit and turn left. The University of North Texas at Dallas is a 21st century teaching institution and a component of the University of North Texas System. The University’s goal is to train citizens to be productive and lead in a global environment and to promote the values of virtue, civility, reasoning and accountability.
