The Ellis County Press: Councilman ticked off over recent repair allegations Councilman ticked off over recent repair allegations ================================================================================ Megan Gray on 05/05/2011 19:11:00 LANCASTER – District 4 Council Representative James Daniels is ticked off after allegations surfaced about recent construction and insurance claims on his property. According to documentation received by The Ellis County Press during the high winds on Monday, April 11, damage was caused to Daniels home. When D&J Construction reported to the home, they placed a tarp on the roof of his residence. “There was no other damage from the winds,” said Johnny Gray, owner. “We placed a tarp on there and presented him [Daniels] with a bill at which time he said he was not going to pay us.” According to Gray, Daniels said, “it would be in our best interest to just walk away so we could keep our good name in the community.” When contacting Daniels, he denied the allegations. “He is a lying a**,” said Daniels. “I didn’t use them to fix my roof, I was just getting an estimate from them and any American is allowed an estimate or two or three from a company.” Gray claims he is already contacting an attorney and filing a suit in small claims court for the $350 Daniels owes for his company’s work. “My reputation is solid in the community, he can’t even vote, so why would I want his vote?” questioned Daniels. Gray claims his company worked closely with Daniels insurance company and was told Daniels had paid them $100 to put his fence back up. There was no damage and no repair work done by D&J to the fence. “I didn’t have any work on my fence, that is another lie from him, I invite you to come to my house and drive down and look, there is no evidence of me ever needing to have my fence repaired,” said Daniels. According to State Farm Insurance Documents, Daniels received $396.27 for a wood fence, six feet high –detach and reset- per 8’ section. Calls to State Farm Representative David Zora were unreturned as of press time. Daniels is currently seeking re-election.
