City preps for new fire station; Council approves street improvements

WAXAHACHIE – Waxahachie council unanimously approved the engineer services for
the city’s Emanuel Street Paving Improvements Project from Cleaver Street to
Marvin Avenue Monday, April 4 to Birkhoff, Hendricks and Carter, L.L.P.
Professional Engineers.
Councilman Mark Singleton was absent.
Director of Public Works Jeff Chambers presented the package to the council with
improvements consisting of a 1,325 square foot section of road with seven inch
thick reinforced concrete and not with two feet of shoulder on either side as
well as the repair of water and sewer lines.
“The improvements have a probable construction cost of $358,500 with a total
project budget of $428,200,” said Chambers.
In preparation for the city’s new fire station, to be located on the corner of
Clever Street and Emmanuel Street, the city is working on improving the roads to
withstand the weight of the heavier truck flow that will be coming through in
the future.
Historically, Emmanuel has been a low traffic street.
“The city plans to issue certificates of obligation bonds [to pay for the
construction],” said City Manager Paul Stevens.
Certificate of obligation bonds don’t require an election.
