The Ellis County Press: TxDOT to break ground on safety improvements for FM 878; Project funded through the Proposition 14 Safety Bond program TxDOT to break ground on safety improvements for FM 878; Project funded through the Proposition 14 Safety Bond program ================================================================================ Editor on 10/28/2010 11:27:00 WAXAHACHIE - The Texas Department of Transportation will break ground in November on a new project in Ellis County to make safety improvements to FM 878 from U.S. 287 in Waxahachie to FM 813 in Palmer. The eight-mile long project includes "safety widening" by building three-foot shoulders and resurfacing the highway. Driveway culverts that do not already have sloped safety-end treatments will have them added. New pavement markings will be applied, including a profile shoulder stripe which gives discernible warning of improper vehicle lane position. Because the road is only two lanes, one in each direction, lane closures will involve flaggers and a pilot vehicle to lead traffic around whatever section of roadway is being worked on. The lane closures will occur daily between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. F.T. Woods Construction Services, Inc. of Georgetown is the contractor on the $6 million project. This project was chosen to be funded by Proposition 14 Safety Bonds. These bonds were approved for issue by the Texas Transportation Commission in 2008 and are backed by the state highway fund. This project was selected for funding to improve the safety features of FM 878 and help prevent run-off-the-road type accidents. The project is expected to be substantially complete by June 2013.
