The Ellis County Press: LOVING GOD, OUR SELF AND OTHERS LOVING GOD, OUR SELF AND OTHERS ================================================================================ Geri McGhee on 03/18/2011 11:09:00 God's Word tells us that to love others, we must first love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, body, and spirit and our neighbor as our self. It is impossible to love others without first loving our self. Not with an arrogant narcissistic kind of love but with God's valuation of us. When you love yourself, there is a certain way you will interact with people, and a certain way you will carry yourself. When you love yourself, you don't have to look outside of who you are for approval. When you love yourself, a "certain" type of man and woman will gravitate toward you. In order to love your self, you must abide in Him (obey, stay under His authority by aligning yourself with His Word). When you do this, you will not only come to know the love God has for you but you will like the person He is fashioning you to be, confidently seeing your self as sufficient in His eyes! 1JO 4:12-16 says, "No one has beheld God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. Whoever confesses (confession of sin implying a change of direction) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him." "By this, love is perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world."
