The Ellis County Press: Community Resolution for StopLoop9.com Community Resolution for StopLoop9.com ================================================================================ Editor on 07/30/2009 12:28:00 A Resolution of the citizens of Dallas and Ellis counties, in Defense of Citizens' Constitutional Rights including, but not limited to: Life, Liberty and Property Rights. WHEREAS, StopLoop9.com and The Ellis County Press recognize the Constitution of the United States of America and the constitution of the State of Texas to be the supreme laws of the land which our town elected officials and police officers by their oaths of office have sworn to uphold; and WHEREAS, the preservation of civil rights, civil liberties and property rights stated in these constitutions is essential to the well-being and integrity of our republic, and if these fundamental rights are undermined it does irreparable damage to American institutions and to the values of equal justice and freedom that the residents of Dallas and Ellis counties hold in highest respect and reverence; and WHEREAS, following the plans for the Trans-Texas Corridor proposed by Gov. Rick Perry in 2002; and WHEREAS, StopLoop9.com and The Ellis County Press affirms its strong opposition to the proposed Loop 9 Toll Road in its current form, route and plan that seeks to crush neighborhoods, subdivisions, homes and properties in Midlothian, Cedar Hill, Glenn Heights, DeSoto, Ovilla, Oak Leaf, Red Oak and southern Dallas County and Ellis County, but believes that government can and must protect public and personal safety without impairing constitutional rights, civil rights and property rights; and that any federal or state money not be supplied to the Loop 9 Toll Road that negatively affects the aforementioned towns and properties and to those rights and liberties; and WHEREAS, people in communities across two counties, Dallas and Ellis, believe that many provisions of the state, federal laws and regional governing bodies' Loop 9 plans and routes do threaten property rights and liberties by expanding the authority of the federal/state/regional governments to forcefully evict home and property owners from their land to make way for this proposed toll road; NOW, THEREFORE, STOPLOOP9.COM and _The Ellis County Press_, RESOLVES: Section 1. That StopLoop9.com and _The Ellis County Press_ have been, and remains, firmly committed to the protection of civil rights, civil liberties and property rights for all people. Section 2. That StopLoop9.com and _The Ellis County Press_ affirms the following principles: Every person has a right to equal protection under the law and the right not to be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; Section 3. That StopLoop9.com and _The Ellis County Press_ reaffirms its support of the citizens of Dallas and Ellis counties in its campaign against the violation of private property rights against laws and plans for Loop 9 in its current routes through our neighborhoods, but also reaffirms its commitment that such a campaign not be waged at the expense of constitutionally guaranteed rights and civil liberties of the people of Dallas and Ellis counties. Section 4. That StopLoop9.com and _The Ellis County Press_ shall send copies of this signed resolution to Gov. Rick Perry and the city councils of Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Glenn Heights, Ovilla, Oak Leaf, DeSoto, Red Oak and Midlothian, with notification of its desire that they work to repeal those provisions of the Loop 9 toll road routes that may violate fundamental rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.
