The Ellis County Press: Letters to the Editor: We’ve been complacent too long Letters to the Editor: We’ve been complacent too long ================================================================================ Editor on 01/19/2012 11:54:00 Fellow citizens, we have been too complacent for too long. We are being taken advantage of by the elected members of our federal government. They have so “stacked the deck” in favor of the incumbent that it’s nearly impossible to unseat them. More than 80 percent of Americans believe that members of congress don’t deserve re-election yet some 90 percent are re-elected again and again. They manipulate and control us through the burdensome income “tax code.” According to U.S. Representative John Hostettler (R-IN) “the Internal Revenue Code and regulations add up to one million words and is nearly seven times the length of the Bible.” Change a few paragraphs and the behavior of 100,000 citizen’s behavior changes. This empowers those in power. There is a far better way for the government to fund itself and leave us alone; it’s called “The Fair Tax.” It’s been “in committee” since it was introduced to both houses of congress Jan. 25, 2011 while they tended to more important matters. Ask your incumbent congressperson about it. How much longer will we tolerate this behavior? Please make the decision now to vote in the primary of the incumbent‘s party and vote for someone other than the incumbent. Glen Terrell Arlington
