The Ellis County Press: Letters to the Editor: An Open Letter to my Representative for District 10 Letters to the Editor: An Open Letter to my Representative for District 10 ================================================================================ Editor on 06/23/2011 15:17:00 Dear Mr. Pitts: I understand that Speaker Joe Straus is asking members of the Texas House to sign cards pledging to re-elect him as Speaker in the next legislative session. I ask that you not sign such a pledge card. At this point we are still evaluating the 2011 legislative session and evaluating Speaker Straus. It appears that Speaker Straus, through his committee chair appointments and legislative scheduling, has effectively prevented legislation on several important issues, including protection from illegal immigration, defeat of public-private partnerships for operation of toll roads, and maximum protection against seizure of private property by the government. I am sure you are aware that the great majority of Texans favor such legislation. While such legislation may yet result from the special session, it seems clear that Speaker Straus is not conservative and will not push these issues. You already know that many of your constituents would like for you to oppose Joe Straus’ re-election as Speaker. At the very least, you should tell Mr. Straus that it is too soon to commit to supporting anyone for Speaker in the next session. Very truly yours, Bill Carson Midlothian Leadership Team Ellis County Tea Party
