Bill of Rights dead in Ennis?
Political party leader harassed by police in Ennis
This morning, I went to watch the Ennis National Polkafest Parade (it was a good one) and hand out flyers advertising the new Ellis County Constitution Party, but while crossing the street after handing out just a few of them, a policeman asked me what I was doing and demanded to see what I was passing out.
I complied with the request.
He did not know for sure if it was "legal" for me to be doing this and called to headquarters to check.
Meanwhile he asked me for my ID (wow, I didn’t know Ennis was in Communist Russia or Nazi Germany- your papers please!).
After he got all my personal information for his report he told me that it was legal for me to pass out the flyers, BUT if any of them ended up on the ground, I would be fined.
To me, that sounded like a Yes and a No with emphasis on the No.
How much would the fine be?
Since I did not have legal counsel with me at the time or another party member, I decided it the better part of valor to back off.
I do want to mention that the policeman was not threatening or un-professional in any way.
They just need to be trained to follow the Constitution. The walk back to my truck was with great sadness.
I thought I lived in America.
I thought I was free, I thought I had a Bill of Rights and a Constitution.
Aren’t we honoring those who fought and died for our freedoms this week?
I thought the police raised their right hand and swore an oath to uphold the Conmstitution.
Guess I was wrong.
I wonder if the food and drink vendors were being fined for every cup or hot dog wrapper dropped.
What a great day for the Ennis Police budget.
Maybe I should have yelled out to "The Sons of the Revolution" (the first group in the Parade dressed in Colonial garb) for help against the "White Shirts" - Ennis police.
It’s hard to find a British Redcoat these days.
I thought we had won our freedoms, but it looks like we are losing them fast.
The Republicans and Democrats have not protected our liberties and they will not.
That is why we need the Constitution Party, the third largest party in the United States to get bigger and help all of us restore the Constitution to its rightful place.
The Constitution Party asks for your support, and may God Bless America.
