The coming green nightmare

Back in the good old days America’s colors were red, white and blue. No longer, it appears. Now all we hear is "green."

My wife and I watch Channel 5 news – in spite of Mike Snyder’s pomposity – but lately this "green" stuff has become pretty unbearable, at least for me it has. Every newscast it’s green this or green that, how one company after another is going green, how you can go green and on-and-on ad nauseam.

Barack Hussein Obama claims green, as do numerous senators and representatives. It just seems one is not cool unless touting how green they are. Earth day newscasts showed schools brainwashing young kids on the importance of being green, planting plants and loving the environment as well as protecting Mother Earth. It’s enough to make one lose their appetite not to mention their supper!

Perhaps this modern movement started when Lyndon Johnson signed into law The Wilderness Act in 1964. This law represented the culmination of a century’s efforts and activities by old-school conservationists like John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club. This bill defined wilderness as "an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain."

For some conservationists it was the finale. But, for others it was only a beginning, with the language establishing a foundation upon which to build today’s green movement. That remarkable image of man as an unwelcome visitor to planet Earth is what drives today’s neo-romantic green movement and represents what it’s morphed into.

Many well-funded organizations have picked up the gauntlet and run with the notion that "[The] hopeful alternative to the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals is the voluntary extinction of one species: Homo sapiens – us." Other groups’ guiding principles are based on more coercive policies, not unlike China’s child-rationing program, which, as one green intellectual puts it, are necessary to protect environmental rights, which are potentially infringed by the addition of each new human being.

These neo-romantic environmentalists have been trying for decades to transform our economy and our way of life based on various environmental ploys. They gloomily predict looming food shortages and starvation, deforestation, population growth, and even several decades ago, another ice age. That, of course, was before they jumped on their most successful hoax, man-made, or anthropogenic, global warming. The fatal flaw in this whole global warming nonsense is there simply is no scientific evidence indicating carbon dioxide emissions control or even measurably impact global climate. There is, unfortunately, a lot of overblown hype and hyperbole with a lot of people buying in to the premise. It’s been a very successful propaganda effort with a large army of misinformed school children ready to march for Al Gore’s inconvenient lie. Cute, cuddly messengers of planetary doom.

In spite of the fact the science behind man-made global warming fears are continually rebutted by a growing number of prominent scientists and in peer-reviewed scientific journals, the political "consensus" appears about to commit the U.S. to a massive energy tax (cap and trade) not to mention the regulations that will severely harm our economy. Environmentalists are literally licking their chops at the once in a lifetime opportunity to advance their anti-human agenda dramatically under Barack Hussein Obama.

California wants mandatory "smart thermostats" which would allow utilities to control in-home energy usage and there are proposed laws in some states to monitor and charge drivers based on GPS technology. They oppose biotechnology that produces both pest- and pesticide-resistant crops and block the development of natural energy resources. So the simple fact is there is no area of your life that the greens consider off-limits to their intrusion. There is no personal behavior they consider too trivial or too sacrosanct to regulate. They lust at the thought they can create their own brave new totalitarianism with its environmentally friendly world through federal law or local ordinance. Many have said they would like to tax gasoline up to four of five dollars a gallon to dissuade people from driving as much as they do.

Make no mistake about it, the whole notion of living green is really about someone else micro-regulating you – downsizing your dreams and plugging each and every one of us into a new social order for which we never bargained. It’s about having you live under their green thumb and having the boundaries of your life set by others. Your choice of automobile, eating habits, home energy usage and the number of children allowed are no longer to be your private business. They will be the government’s business if the greens have their way. 10 years from now, don’t say you weren’t warned.
