Back to the grassroots

Here we are again in sunny Northern New Mexico, approaching 9 a.m. on the last day of June, temperature’s rising to just above 50 and, by the looks of things around here, you’d think the world didn’t have a care. Wrong!

Oh, I know it’s a little hotter down there in Texas, temperature-wise but, really, it’s pretty hot all over…and things continue to heat up around the globe.

Probably the hottest topic everywhere…except maybe the deep dark jungles of Africa, continues to be the rising cost of fuel. And we hear a lot of whodunits, with Exxon-Mobil leading the pack of suspects, followed by the Arabs, with President Bush a close third.

It’s funny (not really) that we never hear anything negative in the News about Environmental Wackos, with their seeming hammerlock on politicians, not being responsible in any part for this dilemma. Hey, why must Congress go into the whether or not gas and oil exploration goes into Anwar, the California and Florida coasts, and elsewhere…or not?

Wackos have power way out of proportion to their importance and numbers. Rush has gone into this often enough, and yet, their clout only seems to grow. Everything out there seems to have a "Green" tag on it nowadays. Hey, there are at least six other colors in the rainbow…and green has no leg up on any of them.

And then there is the case of Exxon-Mobil and all the other "evil" oil companies being the culprits. Fiddlesticks! If these corporations are evil, you’d have to lump in all the other companies and corporation of the world. Want to do that?

Yes, I know there are certain (unnamed) politicians wanting to blame most all our ills on capitalism and free enterprise, of which Exxon-Mobil, Wal-Mart and your corner drugstore are part. We’ve always known these rock-throwers as Marxists and communists. Now they’re running for high office…

If you think Bush is bad…and a lot of folks do…just wait until we get a Marxist in there.

Sorry, but I call them like I see them…and a certain presidential candidate looks like a duck, walks and talks like a duck…and is a Marxist (duck). I guess you can CHANGE that if you want to, but the fact remains, as far as I’m concerned.

The reason so many young people have been fooled by "The Marxist" is because of a lack of proper warning in their public education. Those of us who got that proper education (back in the Dark Ages) have red flags going off all over the place, when he speaks. Hey, free enterprise and capitalism are good; Marxism and communism are bad. End of story!

Then there are the "Traders." When Wall Street was dealing in slavery, the South got most of the blame. Nowadays, as Wall Street traders (seemingly) jack the price of a barrel of oil from $20 (May 12, 1989, the Associated Press and New York Times) to over $140 (June 30, 2008, International Business Times), it (ain’t) Exxon-Mobil or the Arabs whodunit.

Let’s see, from $20 in 1989 to $143 in 2008? That’s 19 years, with change, right? That’s also sevenfold-plus, right? My understanding is that the oil companies are still profiting under 10 cents a gallon. The service station owners; likewise. Why has not their margins increased sevenfold? They’re the evil ones, right? Something (don’t) add up.

I’ve a growing suspicion the Wall Street Traders have had a heavy hand in all of this. What’s their profit margin? How much do they make each time they push the price of a barrel of oil up another dollar? Have you looked into that, Congress? Or is that an Untouchable? And why are the Wackos so quiet on this point? Good questions.

On the positive side of things, I predict the grassroots will come up with something to (at least) partially lessen our dependence on fossil fuels. It’s possible the grassroots will also come up with something to (at least) partially circumvent Wall Street and its Traders. If you must call something evil, those folks (at least) need some consideration.

Grassroots inventor/free enterprisers are quietly at work here in America and around the globe. I believe there are Thomas Edison’s and Nikola Tesla’s out there experimenting-away on alternatives…and for you Wackos out there, it won’t have anything whatsoever to do with dandelion tea.

You go, Grassroots. May God bless.

P.S. - Have a happy Independence Day!
