Report from Ron Paul Country
My cousin Lori got married over the weekend and you could not ask for better weather. The day, the evening...very nice.
Found out that my political hero, Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, lives in the subdivision over from my uncle in Lake Jackson (Brazoria County, Texas) and jogs every morning on a "walking path" behind the house; my cousin said he’ll usually see him running on the way to school.
Oh, and then there’s the fact that my aunt was delivered by Dr. Paul. That amazes me like you wouldn’t believe.
I think the number of babies Dr. Paul has delivered is in the 4,000 range; explains his staunch pro-life stance, too.
And I couldn’t get away without asking for and accepting a very generous gift of one prized acre of land in Ontario (my grandmother is from Canada and left 75 acres to the family), which was my long-held dream — regardless if it’s in Canada or Somalia, I want to own land.
And hence, DaubenLand.com will be launched soon. True, it’s just one acre, but H. Ross Perot started off with just one dollar. Who knows, maybe instead of heirlooms I’ll just designate land to my cousins, nieces, nephews, etc.
Oh, and then there’s "Bulldozed: ‘Kelo, Eminent Domain, and the American Lust for Land,’" a book my uncle loaned me; it centers on the Freeport, Texas theft (let’s call it what it really is) of Western Seafood’s property - all to make way for some sort of boardwalk economic development boondoggle.
Got to see Western Seafood myself and the property that will become this incubator of drugs’ "diamond."
Surfside was beautiful, too, by the way.
I think I’ll concentrate on land near the coast; it’s hard to put palm trees in Ontario.
