The Dallas County Grand Jury tossed out the recent nepotism case against Wilmer Council members Billy Wickliffe, Eugene Lowe and Dean Rolison after deliberation on the presentation by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

Originally, the three council members and Mayor Don Hudson had been investigated for a nepotism charge after Mayor Don Hudson re-hired City Administrator Thomas Lauer prior to the resignation of council member Teresa Bain who is also Mr. Lauer’s mother-in-law.

"A "no-bill" finding was presented to the three council members through Ted Stanke, attorney for council member Billy Wickliffe which indicates that there is no or insufficient evidence to prove the case in trial" stated Mr. Lauer.

"Council member Tiny Lange presented this information to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in an apparent attempt to remove these council members that the residents placed into office to conduct the daily city business without their consent. I think I would rather place my trust in the citizens of Wilmer to know what the citizens of Wilmer want." Mr. Lauer said.

Council member Billy Wickliffe had no comment on the advice of his attorney, but all council members expressed satisfaction with the results of the Grand Jury investigation.

"This should close the whole matter and allow the City of Wilmer to move forward and get on to the business of running the city." Mr. Lauer said. "We need to concentrate on the duties we were elected or appointed to do, and move forward into building a new Wilmer with new jobs, new growth and new opportunities."

Council members Billy Wickliffe and Tiny Lange are opposing each other in the upcoming election for at-large council seats in Wilmer.

In other upcoming Wilmer election news, Mary Evans, Marlena Hagen and Stan Bell are candidates running for the un-expired one-year council member seat currently held by Mary Evans.

James Jistel, Matias Leal, Dennis and Vicky Vandygriff, Tiny Lange and Billy Wickliffe are candidates running for two 2-year council member seats currently held by Billy Wickliffe and Tiny Lange.

Teresa Bain, Don Hudson and Brian Sliter are running for the mayor seat currently held by Don Hudson. Brian Sliter is also a registered sex offender living in the Wilmer community.
