Letters to the Editor: Tell us it's a tax increase, get it over with
Sounds like our all-Republican Ellis County Commissioners Court is taking cues from the US Congress per a county auditor statement relating to the proposed 2011-2012 FY budget and tax rate to be imposed by and for Ellis County government.
The information I’ve seen talks about a rate which they “will not” exceed at the Sept. 21 public hearing when they’ll vote on the budget vis-a-vis Congress’ newest, latest, highest debt ceiling which they promise not to exceed (until next time). Same difference and a play on words, Commissioner Brown.
Auditor Navarro did mention an 8 or 9 person county job loss and various other cuts and negatives due to the proposed budget, but did not refer to the current rate which will be increased by just over 5 percent if the thing passes.
That’s a tax increase by (supposed) Republican officeholders at a time of genuine financial stress both here and nationally. Don’t blow the suffering government smoke in our faces Mr auditor. There’s not a jot or tittle difference between Washington and Waxahachie (Ellis County) politicians when it comes time for genuine austerity needing to be carried out by same.
Just tell us its a tax increase and get it over with.
