“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – II Timothy 2:15
We are responsible to study God’s word and receive that which the Holy Spirit reveals to us. Within God’s word is His will for our lives, the knowledge of His character and how He deals with man. His word feeds our Spirit, without which we would starve spiritually, dry up and blow away as many have because they only received from a man, tradition and doctrine.
Our enemy knows the word and he surely knows how to use it against us, bringing condemnation and deception instead of revelation and edification, the results of which started countless sects, denominations and even cults all using the Bible, but never learning the truth of its message. Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom or discern God’s word without the Holy Spirit as the Pharisees who were religious leaders in Jesus day, but they had no revelation because they did not know the Author.
The word of God is our weapon to defeat the lies, deceit and deception of our enemies and we are instructed to take the “Sword of the Spirit” which is the word of God to wield against the schemes of the devil. We are to meditate on the word daily to receive the revelation of it that provides spiritual nourishment to our spirit and as God promises in Psalm 1 we shall be as trees planted by the rivers of water that bear fruit in its season.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of the soul and spirit, and the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12
