FERRIS – Expect construction to begin later this year behind Shaw Creek Shopping Center west of Ferris when builders will begin construction on owner-occupied townhomes.
Builder Hal Watson said the townhomes have an estimated cost of $20 million and will include a clubhouse and swimming pool.
“We expect construction to begin later this year… probably early summer,” Watson said. “This would be construction of the horizontal infrastructure.”
Watson said in the case of the infrastructure this could mean the construction could be complete early in 2019.
“And that’s when vertical construction could begin as well,” he added.
Currently Watson’s company plans to build 132 town house-style condominiums – 33 four-plexes – in several phases.
“The rate of sales typically determines the rate of home starts,” Watson explained. “First move-ins could be as soon as the early summer of 2019.”
In the November 2017 Ferris City Council meeting the construction of this development was discussed. At this time, according to past council minutes requested, Ferris City Manager Bill Jordan forwarded only the November meeting minutes and there have been no other city council discussions on the new townhome project.
At the November council meeting an anonymous speaker ask council if this development was across from the school. A second speaker questioned if the development would be more than three stories high.
Watson concluded “As far as we know, no other developers are building this type of for-sale housing within 20 miles of Ferris. We are still working out the details of both the project and the unit floor plans. We will share more information with you as we can.”
