Amazon looking at Wilmer for fullfillment center

Amazon is eyeing two buildings in Southport Logitics Park

Staff Report

WILMER – Amazon, the giant online sales firm is working on a deal to lease more than one-million square feet of warehouse space on Interstate 45 in Wilmer for a new distribution hub.

The planned fulfillment center would be the third major facility Amazon has in southern Dallas County according to published reports.

Amazon is eyeing two buildings in Southport Logistics Park, a $500 million industrial project directly across Interstate45 from Union Pacific Railway’s Dallas Intermodal Terminal. The company is already advertising for workers in Wilmer.

Wilmer city officials reportedly have been working with the company and project developer on the deal.

Developer Port Logistics Realty finished the first 1.1 million square-foot warehouse in the Wilmer industrial park early last year and built an adjoining, almost 400,000-square-foot building.

Officials with the development firm did not respond to requests for information about the project.

Word of the deal is widespread among industrial real estate brokers.

Seattle-based Amazon already has eight distribution and sorting centers in the D-FW area. In southern Dallas County, Amazon has a 920,000-square-foot warehouse off Dallas Avenue south of Interstate 20.

Amazon also has a half-million-square-foot fulfillment center on I-20 near J.J. Lemmon Road.
