Robbie Kay Baxter Hobbs

Robbie Kay graduated in the top of her class from Ferris High School in 1979, and went on to study music at Baylor University. Robbie served the students of Ferris Junior High for several years as the choir director and computer instructor and later served for 8 years as a dispatcher for the Ferris Police Department. She devoted her life to the town she loved and the people who lived there.

Robbie Kay was a devout follower of Jesus and a United Methodist. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Ferris, serving with the United Methodist Women (UMW), singing with the choir, and playing in the handbell choir for several years. She served terms as FUMC Ferris’ UMW President and taught Sunday School classes.

All who knew Robbie Kay, knew she lived to serve others, and believed her most important work in this life was being a mother. She co-led her daughter’s Girl Scouts Troop, taught her Sunday School classes, volunteered on field trips and youth events, lead Vacation Bible School classes, and never missed a play or performance.

Robbie loved to read, scrapbook, travel, watch old movies, sing, listen to music with her husband, and play games and do crafts with her grandson. She shared with her daughter a love of musical theatre and saw more plays and musicals than they could count. She was a wonderful wife, Mama, and Kay Kay, and she will be dearly missed.

Robbie Kay is survived by her husband of over 32 years, Larry Hobbs of Ferris, Texas; and daughter, Curri and husband, Nathan Hairston of Red Oak, Texas, and their son, her precious grandson, Liam Hairston.

She is preceded in death by her parents and uncle T.H. Baxter (Uncle T.).

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Ferris, with Rev. Mary Gean Cope and Rev. Denise Luper officiating.
