For a truck, this Chevrolet is top notch in the midsize trunk segment. The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado is the kind of truck that is easy to drive and has a low-key chill vibe.

In short, you get where you are going with no fuss.

One major standout is the fact the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

One of the Colorado’s strongest competitors, the Honda Ridgeline only tows 5000 at its top numbers. For 2017 the Colorado has a revised V6 engine and it offers a lot more power with this addition too.

There are four trim levels on this pickup. From there you can choose from a two- or four-seat extended-cab or the five-seat crew-cab body style. There are also two bed lengths.

The trim levels are Base, Work Truck, LT and Z71.

If you really just need this truck as a hauling machine then the Base trim will do quite fine. You can only get this trim in an extended cab version. The features that come on this trim standard are a six-speed manual transmission, air-conditioning, vinyl upholstery and floor covering. There is also a four-way power driver seat, bucket seats in the front and power windows, rearview camera and a 4.2-inch display.

The Work Truck (WT) trim adds the option of either the extended cab or a crew cab body style. There are fold-up rear jump seats on the extended cab and there are also carpeting and floor mats that come on the WT.

You can opt for a WT additional package that will give you remote keyless entry, cruise control and an audio system with the Chevrolet app-based MyLink system with Bluetooth connectivity, seven-inch screen, voice controls and a Wi-Fi hot-spot connectivity.

On the LT trim you get all of the above items along with 17-inch alloy wheels, leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, eight-inch touch screen and two USB plug-ins.

If you want to expound on luxury in the LT you can add heated front seats, automatic climate control and for safety the forward collision and lane departure warning.

For the top-of-the-line Z71 you get all the LT’s goodies as well as tinted 17-inch alloy wheels, off-road-oriented suspension, locking rear differential, hill descent control and leather upholstery and a standout seven-speaker audio system with navigation.

On the WT and the two additional trims you can choose six-speed automatic transmission for the base four-cylinder. The Colorado engine choices are either the 3.6-liter V6 with 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque with an eight-speed automatic transmission or the 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. This engine has a six-speed automatic feature and you will find yourself with 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Safety features are the anti-lock brakes, stability control, front and side-impact airbags and overhead airbags used to protect the occupant's heads in the case of a collision or rollover. The security system on the Colorado has an ignition disable and will prevent the engine from starting is necessary.

Inside the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado you will find a cabin that is user-friendly with plenty of room for the driver and passenger. In the front and back seats there is plenty of head room. In the back seats the passenger’s legroom can be a challenge for taller folks.

The buttons and knobs are arranged so that all is easy to access and see. The dash and doors are covered with plastic that, while it does not look cheap, also does not spell luxury.

As for storage there is a small storage bin in the front and also in the back seat. There are also plenty of cup holders and pockets for items that need to be stashed.   Notice under the seats in the back there is a large area for storage.

On the two higher trims the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel works well to help drivers with needed driving comfort.

Behind the wheel of the Colorado it is a smooth ride. You can count on the handling as well as steering ease. This one is a road trip vehicle with plenty of power and it feels good to drive. The steering wheel is large and it reminds you that you’re in a truck. The road and wind noise is nonexistent so you can talk, listen to music and enjoy the road while driving.

So in short, what are you waiting for – hit the road and at a price tag of $35,000, it’s worth the ride.
