“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” – Colossians 3:2-4
Have you ever heard anyone tell you that someone they know is so heavenly minded they are no earthly good? Actually the one they are speaking of has convicted them that they have their minds on the world and the lusts there of.
In order for a believer to exist in the world and not be of it he must first set his mind on Heaven.
That word set reminds me of concrete, because if it’s not set (allowed to harden) it can be damaged by people walking on it, writing their names in it, riding their bicycles on it, etc. So, what is in your mind, the things of God or the things of the world? The things of the world can certainly damage your thought life, being bombarded with lust, pleasure, stuff and a multitude of things brought to you daily through TV, the Internet and that handy little gadget chained to your body, the “I” phone, or should I say “My” phone.
Bear with me in this devotional teaching because if you really want to be free from the world and the religious system that most of us have grown up in, you will have to see the truth that Jesus said would liberate you! Once you see it you will be angry that the devil has trapped you in a man-made religious box that Jesus took to the cross.
In order to proceed, you will have to be willing to repent and have your spiritual eyes and ears open to receive that which God has for each of you.
“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Therefore, put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and covetousness which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.” – Colossians 3:3-7
