DANNY G. HATFIELD, SR.: The return of Jesus Christ (part 2)

At the Lord’s return, at the time of the resurrection the souls dead in Christ will be reunited with their body, an incorruptible, immortal body. As Christ was raised from the dead, Christ being the first fruit, those that are dead in Christ will in like manner be raised from the dead, incorruptible.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise ‘first” (1st Thessalonians 4:16). It is at this time the corruptible puts on incorruption, death is defeated. The dead in Christ being raised first is to say we which are alive will not precede those that sleep; they will be raised and transformed prior to the living.

After the dead in Christ have been raised, the living will be transformed having putting on immortality. “Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord” (1st Thessalonians 4:17).  To better understand this event and the transformation taking place we must review 1st Corinthians 15 – read all.

“Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we (the living) shall all be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory” (1st Corinthians 15:51-54).

Now that we have insight of what will take place at the resurrection, now we must understand when the resurrection will take place. Again, this is not naming a date, but reveals only the events to take place. Now, we understand there is only one resurrection of the just, called the rapture today by men without understanding. The resurrection takes place in Revelations 20:4-6, this is the first and only resurrection of the righteous, of the just, of those saved from the second death.

“And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection (the only resurrection of the just). Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years” (Rev. 20:4-6).

Prior to the resurrection there are many events that take place, however the main event marking God’s calendar of seasons concerning the resurrection is in this, just prior to the resurrection, “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, which is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while” (Revelations 20:1-3).

The first resurrection will not take place until after Satan (the wicked one has been taken out of the way) bound for 1000 years. After the 1000 years Satan is loosed for a season, defeated and cast into the lake of fire where the beast and false prophet reside. Those that do not know Jesus Christ as Savior will not be raised until after Satan has been cast into the lake that burns forever.

As for those that do not take part in the first resurrection, whose names are not found in the Lambs Book of Life, whose souls await in hell, hell being a holding place for the lost until the day of judgment which leads to the second death, they will take part in the second resurrection, after the 1000 years reign is completed. We must also understand hell is not the lake of fire; hell is a place for lost souls, hell itself will be cast into the lake of fire. Revelations 20:14-15
