DANNY G. HATFIELD, SR.: God’s grace, faith and works (part 5)

Let’s consider what it means to be a Christian, believing on Jesus Christ; then we will review the works of Jesus Christ. When we say we believe in Jesus Christ, what are we saying?  Jesus Christ is truth and when we believe, it is within these truths our faith is established thereby gaining understanding and growing in knowledge. Our walk begins here, to believe on and accept Jesus Christ as Savior the only begotten Son of God; believing God raised Christ from the dead; repent; be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and receive the Holy Spirit, that is to say being born again.

When we say we have faith and believe, we must accept all things concerning God and Jesus Christ, we cannot pick and choose what we want to believe. When we believe in God and Jesus Christ, God’s truth removes all darkness and we are able to see clearly, understand. Darkness is like a cloud that blocks the light of the sun, we cannot see until darkness is gone.  Too often what we choose personally to believe is not always truth; many choose to believe those things that will be to their worldly advantage.

We cannot build our own kingdom on what we choose to believe, that is own our thoughts and ideals; God has already established His kingdom and it is in His kingdom we must abide. We cannot take a piece of the whole of what God has established and build, by taking only a piece of the whole the piece will be incomplete. We then build our own house, a house having not a solid foundation; it will fall in the end. This is why many have drawn conclusions on incomplete information, building their own house deceiving their selves and deceive those that follow them.

Let’s look at a piece of the whole; like saying I know your name, but I do not know you. We cannot know or understand a person by knowing their name only; we must know that person to understand that person. How many know the name of Jesus Christ but do not know Jesus Christ? We must first know Jesus Christ and believe to gain understanding, we must then attain understanding before we can grow in knowledge; understanding is the foundation of knowledge. Only when a person understands spiritual truths will they be able to grow in faith and act decisively on what they believe.

Concerning faith, being a Christian is not a matter of knowing right from wrong, many in the world know right from wrong, being a Christian is bout life and death. Jesus Christ is life and when we abide in Jesus Christ we abide in life, abiding in truth and doing right. There are many religions in the world that teach many things but the bottom line, there is but one God and God is not a religion, God is a being, God does not abide in religions, religions are manmade. God is a Spirit and we must abide by faith, in the Spirit if we are to abide in Him. No man has seen God with their physical eyes; it is by our belief according to the Word of God and through faith and by the Spirit that we know him. “Now without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” Hebrews 11:6).

Those that have eyes to see (understanding) abide by faith having absolute trust and confidence in God, believing God will fulfill his promises of the resurrection while they yet wait patiently for that day. “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to son ship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we are saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently” (Romans 8:22-25). When this corruptible puts on incorruption, we will see God as he is, as written 1st Corinthians 15:50-54.

Now the carnal man cannot have faith in God because the carnal man cannot understand the things of God. The carnal man requires tangible proof, they must see, touch, smell or taste before they believe thus having no faith.  Considering touch, smell, sight and taste, these are after the flesh and not of the Spirit. We must learn to separate the ways of the flesh from the ways of the Spirit, we must abide in the light to discern darkness, we must cease from evil and do good, we must separate the ways of this world from the ways of God, these things we do because we are saved.

By the Word of God, by our faith in Jesus Christ and by our works (the fruit we bear) we will be known as Christian. To say we believe without bearing fruit of righteousness we lie to ourselves, how can we say we believe if we continue in darkness? Darkness has no part with God, repent.
