North Ellis County Outreach will be hosting a free Marriage Class here at the library on Saturday, July 15, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. After speaking with people who have attended this class in Red Oak and giving it such high praise, I recommend this to everyone. It’s not a counseling session, they provide information for a better marriage, which gives you a better life.
The Ferris Public Library’s staff has had a wonderful time with all of our patrons during the 2017 Summer Reading Club. A heartfelt Thank You to the following local businesses: Dairy Queen, Ferris Donuts, Ferris Fruit Stand, I-45 Donuts, Javier’s, Shiver Shak, and Taquerias Emmanual. All of the listed proprietors encouraged children to read over the summer months with an award for reading the required amount of books for their age group. We will be announcing the Reading Winners in next week’s Ellis County Press. Charlie Hatfield, owner of the Ellis County Press, has been great over the years by allowing the library a weekly article to announce all we have to offer our patrons during the year.
Teen Time, ages 12 and up, will be having their Pizza Party on Friday, July 14, at 2:00 p.m. You must have attended at least one other Teen Time to enjoy this treat.
Ferris Fire and Police Departments will visit the library on Wednesday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. It’s always a fun visit with lots of things to see and learn. The safety tips, along with information, they give are fantastic and good to know for all ages.
Samaritans Miracles are serving free breakfast and lunch to children ages 3 to 18 here at the library. Meals are available Tuesdays through Fridays and no registration is required. Breakfast starts at 9:45 – 10:15 a.m.; lunch served 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
The library’s Annual Book Sale has started. Come by and take advantage of great prices for books and DVDs.
New Books – “Nighthawk: A NUMA Files Novel” by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown, “An Uncommon Protector: A Lone Star Hero’s Love Story” (LP) by Shelley Shepard Gray, “Dangerous Games” by Danielle Steel, “16th Seduction” by James Patterson, “Phenomena: The Secret History of the U.S. Government’s Investigations into Extrasensory Perception and Psychokinesis” (Dewey 133) by Annie Jacobsen, and “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” (Dewey 976) by David Grann.
Fun Holiday – July 13 is Fool’s Paradise Day. This special day seems a bit like an oxymoron. How can a fool reach, or experience, Paradise? And, how could a place be Paradise, if fools inhabit the place? We don’t know the answers to these important questions. We can only speculate, as we have yet to find the creator of this special day. The philosophical thought about this day will be left to you the reader. Have a wonderful Fool’s Paradise Day!
